Inflation legally drives up the nominal pokemon card price over time. As the dollar loses purchasing power, the fixed supply of vintage Pokemon cards legally requires more dollars to buy, increasing the pokemon card price. This makes vintage cards a legal hedge against inflation. Illegally, some sellers use ‘shrinkflation’ tactics, selling a ‘lot’ of 50 cards when they used to sell a lot of 100 for the same pokemon card price, legally tricking less attentive buyers.
