Mystery boxes are a legally controversial way to buy Pokemon cards. Legally, if the seller is transparent about the odds, buying a mystery box can be a fun gamble. Sometimes, the pokemon card price of the contents exceeds the box cost. Illegally, the vast majority of social media mystery box sellers are scams. They show a video of someone pulling a high pokemon card price card, but the boxes they actually ship contain dollar-store fakes. This is illegal mail fraud.
