Altered slabs occur when a scammer illegally cracks open a legitimate low-value graded slab, swaps the card for a fake high-value card, and legally reglues the slab shut. They then attempt to sell it for the inflated pokemon card price. Legally, grading companies now use tamper-evident stickers that legally show a ‘VOID’ pattern if the slab is opened. Always inspect the legal integrity of the tamper-evident seal before paying a premium pokemon card price.
